There is no shortage of articles and information about accountants and their use of social media. Below is a just a small sampling of the articles that I found simply by Googling "social media accountants":
And I'm sure that there are literally hundreds of other articles written by CPAs, marketing folks like myself and writers/bloggers covering the accounting profession. The messages are simple: social media is not just for kids (according to Google, 57 percent of users of social network sites are over 35!), it can help us do our jobs better and it's not going anywhere.
Rather than bore you by rehashing the same points that you can find in the articles linked to above, I'll mention just a few ways that the NJSCPA can help you.
First, attend the Society's social media seminar - "Social Media Strategies for Growing Your Business". Taught by me, NJSCPA Online Communications Manager Rachael Bell and Society member Gail Rosen, CPA, the session provides practical knowledge on how to best develop and deploy new media and social media initiatives.
Our next session will be conducted for the Hudson Chapter on Thursday, September 16, 6:30-8:30 PM. If you can't attend, invite us to present for your chapter, committee or interest group. Or let us know if you would like us to put together a stand along session or webinar.
Second, it's amazing how much you can learn about Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter and other social media sites by joining existing groups and just playing around. I encourage you to dip your toe in the water by following the NJSCPA's pages and blogs. Join the thousands of CPAs and students who are following us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, completed their profiles on NJSCPA Connect and read our two blogs, CPA Exam Cram and CPA Observation Post.
If you see a post or tweet that you think other CPAs or students would find valuable, "like" or retweet it, or post a comment. You can also "like" or tweet content directly from our website. Through the efforts of our "Social Media Champions", the Society can keep our members better informed about the profession, energize the NJSCPA membership, and build an even stronger sense of community among CPAs.
Let us know about your efforts and if you have any suggestions.
