Tap Into the Power of the NJSCPA Member Open Forum

The NJSCPA launched NJSCPA Connect last spring as a means for members to "connect" and communicate with their fellow CPAs. Not surprisingly, this tax season the NJSCPA Member Open Forum, the online discussion board and email forum available to all members, has seen a lot of activity as Society members asked and answered questions about a variety of tax topics. But earlier this week, a non-tax question demonstrated how powerful the Open Forum can be in connecting members and providing solutions.

Society staff was contacted by a Monmouth/Ocean Chapter member, Lisa Galinsky, who was trying to help the Jewish Federation of Middlesex, a nonprofit organization in Middlesex County. We advised Lisa to post a message on the Open Forum seeking CPAs willing to provide nonprofit pro bono work.

Within two days, Lisa received five responses from CPAs willing to help. She referred them to the Jewish Federation of Middlesex, which was both surprised and thankful for the power of the NJSCPA network. Additionally, Lisa received a call from a Middlesex County College teacher who was hoping to be able to get some of her students to volunteer. As it turns out, another organization with which Lisa is affiliated, the Jewish Family Children's Service of Greater Monmouth County, is undertaking a project that the students can assist with.

So, with one post on the Open Forum, Lisa was able to help two nonprofits.

How can you tap into the power of the NJSCPA Member Open Forum and NJSCPA Connect to learn, network and grow? Have you already had a positive experience with NJSCPA Connect? Let us know about it.
