My Client Visit

As an exciting introduction to some exciting news, EY annually hosts the IILC (International Intern Leadership Conference) in Disney World for the and Canadian interns, along with intern reps from around the world, at the end of the internship. This year it will be from August 5-8. All the interns have recently been invited, and we have been asked to choose seminars to attend for the first two days, and while there we'll have an afternoon free to visit a park!

Now for the news: Today, I was nominated as an intern to be interviewed to represent the North East Sub-Area during the IILC in a video that they are making! The campus recruiting team hand-selected a few interns to see if those people are interested. I will be notified at the conference whether I have been chosen for the video or not, but in the meantime, just giving you all a heads-up on my potential video debut!

Other than the news, I have finished my third day at the client site. After a wonderful holiday break (EY gave us
both Friday, July 2 and Monday, July 5 off), I started my tax provision work at my client's office on Tuesday. At the client site, it’s me and my team in a conference room. Similar to my first day at the office, my first day at the client site involved getting myself situated in the new environment. Of course, there was a bit of anxiety to go along with the new environment, but that soon passed. Since we spend lots of time together, it has been rewarding getting to know my team and learning the team dynamics. Everyone has been extremely supportive, and it has really given me a great idea about the roles of people at different levels and the increased responsibility that each level entails. To be honest, before interning, I never fully understood the difference between a staff 1 and a staff 2 or the difference between a senior staff and a manager. From my three days at the client site, I have been able to appreciate the amount of knowledge that comes with experience! In addition, I have noticed that the teaming skills that come from group projects in school, although different in content, still play a role in the workplace - communication is key!

It might sound like everything is going great, but it really is! I am enjoying the work and the perks that come with it!

Until next time,

Colette
