What an awesome first day!! Once I walked in, Tim explained the
basics of bookkeeping to me. While he tended to his clients during the
day, I worked on a inputting financial transactions into Quickbook Pro.
Tomorrow I will be going back in to learn how to complete the bank
reconciliation portion. If completed, I will be doing the business’
taxes on Monday. If I need Monday to complete the bank reconciliation,
then next Saturday will be tax day!
The account I worked on all day is half completed by Tim. Due to
time constraints, he was unable to finish – making it a perfect project
for me to start with Tim explained how my next project, another
business, will be completed from start to finish on my own. Very
exciting.
What makes today so interesting, is how I saw my four years of
Accounting classes meet every day life – AKA book life meets the real
world. It was awesome to see the two ends meet. During all the hours I
spend with my Accounting books, I always wondered what real life looked
like. The textbook is not going to explain that people do not always
keep receipts and keep organized records. The professor tried to
explain, but it is just something you need to experience for yourself.
There is no other way to completely understand it.
For me, today’s experience can be explained with a simple analogy.
Not many people know what it is like to be a race car driver. Everyone
knows what it is like to drive 90 miles an hour. But how to you explain
to someone what 150 or 200 miles per hour feel like? It is just
something that needs to be experienced in order to completely understand
it.
Tomorrow will be day two!!
