A New (NJSCPA) Spin on a Holiday Classic

By Don Meyer, CAE posted 12-21-2012 09:28 AM

I hope that you enjoy my take on “The Night Before Christmas.”

‘Twas ten days before New Years, when all through the state

The NJSCPA was stirring before the big date;

Conferences and seminars planned with such care

Not fulfilling education requirements, CPAs do not dare;

The members were nestled all snug in their classes

For ethics and tax, they show up in masses;

More rapid than eagles CPAs they volunteer

Profession and Society in their hearts they hold dear;

In earnest, members converge with one aim

You know who they are, you know them by name;

Now Technology! Now, Coop with Bankers! Now Chapter Ops and Federal Taxation!

On Nonprofit! On Young CPAs! On Business Valuation/Forensic Litigation!

Resource groups, committees and chapters meet with a reason

To get their work done, before busy season;

The programs we execute no other Society could outdo

There’s CPE, Pay It Forward, Scholarships and Peer Review (just to name a few);

I’ll pause here now in my holiday rhyme

To count our blessings, as we should from time to time;

The world events of 2012 put business matters in perspective

It’s impossible to watch such sorrow without feeling reflective;

I’ll continue my verse with a nod to Society staff

They’re truly the best and that is no laugh;

Proudly we serve New Jersey’s most trusted profession

Of that there is certainly no question;

It’s time to sign off now, of this I am sure

I do so with apologies to Clement Clarke Moore;

I’ll pay him one last tribute, it would only be right

Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good night.
