Does Your Company have Social Media Guidelines?

Last week, Online Communications Manager Rachael Bell and I provided a one-hour social networking presentation at the NJSCPA CPAs/Bankers/Attorneys Networking Breakfast. While professionals are becoming more accepting of the business applications of LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, there's still plenty of apprehension about employees use of social media, either on behalf of the company or on their own time.

To address the "what ifs" of social media, about two years ago the NJSCPA developed an official social media policy for the Society. The original version of this policy was developed by IBM, released to the public, and then edited and adopted by a slew of other companies and organizations, including ours. The IBM version is much more detailed than ours, so definitely check it out if you think our version is too simple. Our policy will likely evolve as new social media resources and technologies emerge, but it hasn't changed much in the last two years.

Feel free to comment on our policy or share your company's policy with us.
