Reminders about Firm Licenses and Peer Review Exemption

As some of you probably know by now, New Jersey firm license renewal is underway.

According to the NJ State Board of Accountancy, firm renewal notices were mailed on April 27. June 30 is the deadline for renewing a firm license. Remember that individual CPA license and firm license renewal pages on the State Board website require different logins and passwords. If your firm did not receive the license renewal information, contact the State Board at 973-504-6380 to confirm the firm address on file or make a change if needed.

Keep in mind that participation in a Peer Review Program is required of each firm licensed with the Board that performs any attest services (any accounting and/or auditing engagements, including audits, reviews, compilations, forecasts, projections or special reports).

Firms claiming an exemption from Peer Review should file the Board’s Affidavit for Exemption from Peer Review (Page 3 of 3) with the Board by June 30. Please also note this Affidavit must be filed ANNUALLY. A firm with an exemption that begins providing attest services or any accounting and/or auditing engagements shall notify the Board of the change in status within 30 days and provide the Board with enrollment information within 12 months of the date the services were first provided. The firm shall have a review within 18 months of the date the services were first provided.

Peer review forms and FAQs may be found at njcpa.org/peerreview. Please contact the NJCPA or State Board if you have questions.
