30 Days and Counting

In honor of Cyber Monday, I'm encouraging all NJSCPA members to head to their computers, laptops and tablets to renew their CPA licenses and complete their IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) registration. As hopefully everyone reading this message knows, there are just 30 more days until the end of the triennial CPE reporting period.

In late October, the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy mailed the instructions for renewing your CPA license via its secure MyLicense website. Remember that individual CPA license and firm license renewal pages on the State Board website require different logins and passwords.

If you don't think that you'll have enough credits by December 31, request "paid inactive" status, pay the associated fees, take the required number of credits and then reapply for active status.

It's important to remember that CPAs must complete a four-credit course on New Jersey Law and Ethics provided by a sponsor approved by the State Board. Click here for courses offered by the NJSCPA.

To renew your IRS PTIN, go to www.irs.gov/ptin and log into your existing PTIN account. After selecting PTIN Renewal, you simply review the information you previously provided for any updates, answer a few new questions and pay your renewal fee of $63.

Contact the Society at 973-226-4494 if you have questions.
